A keynote presentation to inspire travellers at A World for Travel 2024
A World for Travel is a global forum that brings together leaders from across the travel and tourism sector to shape a more sustainable future for the industry. In October 2024, Jessica was invited to deliver a keynote in Seville on ten practical steps travellers can take to reduce their footprints while travelling.
The brief was to move beyond abstract sustainability commitments and instead equip the audience with memorable, actionable tools they could use to influence both their own choices and those of their organisations. Jessica’s keynote was designed as a lively, humorous and interactive session that blended data with creativity, ensuring the message resonated long after the event.
To bring the topic to life, Jessica introduced her own Top Trumps-style card game that illustrated how different factors — from aircraft type to seat class — influence per‑passenger carbon emissions. She also took to the stage with her favourite prop - her now‑infamous “jar of carbon”: a glass jar filled with soot to represent one kilo of CO₂ in powder form. This striking visual helped the audience grasp the scale of emissions per seat on a typical flight, turning an abstract number like “100 kilos of CO₂” into something tangible and unforgettable.
The keynote was accompanied by illustrated slides designed for screengrabs, giving attendees practical takeaways they could keep, share, and apply. The session sparked animated discussion in the room and online, with participants praising its mix of humour, clarity, and hard‑hitting impact.
